Start with the question that feels most like yours

Choose a path below, or read the complete guide from beginning to end.

A full cranial prosthesis is a wig made and fitted for someone whose hair loss is medical. The name matters, because it is the term most physicians and health plans use. The piece itself is a custom or customized wig, shaped to your head, matched to your hair, finished so that it sits securely and looks like yours.

Who a full cranial prosthesis is for

People come to Moxi Loxi before or during chemotherapy or radiation, after an alopecia diagnosis, with thinning related to thyroid or autoimmune conditions, and after burns, surgery or scarring. Some have lost all of their hair. Some have lost enough that a topper no longer covers it. You do not need a referral or a diagnosis in hand to start a conversation with us.

What Moxi Loxi does

Moxi Loxi fits, customizes and supports. Aria Pilar is a licensed cosmetologist and trichologist with more than 30 years of experience. Every prosthesis is fitted to that standard. We take your measurements, talk through cap construction, density, hairline, color, texture and length, cut and finish the piece for you, and teach you how to wear it and care for it. Where a stock piece is not right, we can build to your measurements.

Moxi Loxi does not determine medical necessity, issue a diagnosis or prescribe treatment. Questions about your treatment, your scalp, your medication or any new symptom belong with your physician, oncology team or dermatologist. If your scalp is painful, irritated or has open areas, speak with your healthcare team before wearing anything on it.

Insurance and documentation

Moxi Loxi maintains a National Provider Identifier and the provider and business documentation used to support eligible reimbursement requests. When appropriate, we can provide an itemized invoice and available supporting purchase documentation for you to submit to your health plan.

Coverage, required documentation, covered amounts and reimbursement are determined by your plan and are not guaranteed. Moxi Loxi does not bill insurance directly. You pay Moxi Loxi and submit to your insurer yourself.

What to ask your insurer before you buy

  • Does my plan cover a wig or full cranial prosthesis?
  • Is a prescription or prior authorization required?
  • Which diagnosis or billing information does the claim need?
  • What amount is covered, and are there rules about providers outside the network?
  • What is the submission deadline, and where does the claim go?

Write down the name of the representative you speak with and the reference number for the call. Ask your physician how they would word a prescription, since plans differ in the terminology they accept.

When to come in

If your oncology team expects treatment to cause hair loss, it helps to come in while you still have your hair. We can document your color, length, texture and the way you wear it, which makes matching much easier later. Timing is different for every person and every treatment plan, so confirm medical timing with your oncology team.
