Most people use one of three paths

Some use more than one. Choose the one that sounds like your situation.

You can pay directly. You may be able to use an HSA or FSA. If your hair loss is medically related, you may be able to seek reimbursement from your health plan.

Each is explained below. If you are not sure which applies to you, bring it to a consultation. We will work through it with you.

A flexible way to move forward

Choose the payment approach that works best for you:

  • Pay in full with a major payment card
  • Monthly payments through Shop Pay Installments
  • CareCredit financing

Approval, available terms, interest, and credit limits are determined by the applicable provider.

HSA or FSA

A wig may qualify as a medical expense in limited circumstances. Your HSA or FSA plan administrator determines eligibility, documentation requirements, and reimbursement. Moxi Loxi cannot guarantee that a purchase will qualify.

Insurance reimbursement support

Some health plans may reimburse a medically necessary wig or full cranial prosthesis. Coverage varies by plan.

When appropriate and available, Moxi Loxi can provide:

  • An itemized receipt or invoice
  • Available provider and purchase documentation
  • General guidance about preparing your submission

Customers pay Moxi Loxi directly and submit their own reimbursement requests. Your health plan determines medical necessity, required documentation, covered amounts, out-of-network rules, approval, and reimbursement. Coverage is not guaranteed.

How it usually works

  1. Call your plan before you buy and ask what it covers and what it requires.
  2. Speak with your physician about documentation, if your plan requires it.
  3. Come in for a consultation and fitting.
  4. Pay Moxi Loxi directly. We provide an itemized invoice and the supporting purchase documentation we have available.
  5. Submit your request to your plan. Your plan decides.

If your plan comes back asking for something we have not already given you, tell us. If it is a document we can produce, we will produce it.

What to ask your insurer before you buy

Bring these questions to the call:

  1. Does my plan cover a wig or full cranial prosthesis?
  2. Is a prescription or prior authorization required?
  3. Which diagnosis or billing information does the claim need?
  4. What amount is covered, and are there rules about providers outside the network?
  5. What is the submission deadline, and where does the claim go?

Write down the name of the representative you speak with and the reference number for the call. Ask before you purchase rather than after, because some plans will not consider a request that was not raised in advance.

California sales-tax exemption

In California, a sales-tax exemption may apply when a wig for hair loss due to alopecia, burns, chemotherapy, or radiation is sold pursuant to the order of a physician and surgeon.

Moxi Loxi must retain a copy of the physician's order and the required purchaser and transaction records. Sales that do not meet these requirements are taxable.

Review the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration guidance.

We're here to support you

You do not have to navigate the process alone. Schedule a private consultation. We will help you understand the available payment and documentation paths for your needs.

General consultations are $49 for 30 minutes or $100 for 60 minutes. When you attend a paid consultation, the full amount becomes a credit toward any Moxi Loxi product for 90 days.

If your hair loss is related to chemotherapy, alopecia, radiation or another medical circumstance, the Medical Hair Loss Consultation is complimentary. The complimentary Medical Hair Loss Consultation does not include a product credit.
