Why Medical Hair System Pricing Can Change and How We Help You Plan
A medical wig, topper, or hair system can be an important part of feeling comfortable, recognizable, during hair loss. It is also a meaningful purchase. Clear pricing, clear ownership information, matter, especially when a client is already managing treatment, appointments, insurance questions, or an unexpected change in appearance.
Rather than focusing on one temporary headline, this guide explains the factors that can affect pricing. It also lists the questions to ask before choosing a piece.
What can affect the price
- Hair and processing: hair length, color, texture, sourcing, sorting, the amount of processing, all influence cost, performance.
- Cap construction: lace, monofilament, silk tops, hand tied areas, custom ventilation, specialized attachment materials, require different levels of labor.
- Customization: fit adjustments, cutting, color work, density refinement, hairline work, attachment planning, add professional time, skill.
- Global supply costs: manufacturing, freight, currency changes, duties, tariffs, material availability, can change over time.
- Service and aftercare: fitting, education, maintenance, repairs, cleaning, restyling, follow up, may be included or priced separately.
A lower initial price is not automatically a lower total cost. Ask what is included, what maintenance is expected, which repairs are possible, how the piece is intended to be worn.
Start with the wearing method
A removable wig or topper has a different ownership routine from a semi permanent system.
- Removable wigs and toppers: are taken off for sleep, washing, storage. THE VOYAGE is the primary Moxi Loxi storage recommendation for home, for travel, when the piece is off the head.
- Semi permanent wigs, toppers, and hair systems: remain attached for an extended wearing period. They require scheduled professional maintenance. They do not need THE VOYAGE while attached.
- Hair extensions: have method specific installation costs, maintenance costs. Clip ins, removed extension hair, can be stored on the Hair Hanger. Compatible tape in methods may use replacement tape according to professional instructions.
Ask for the total ownership picture
Before purchasing, ask:
- What services, what customization, are included?
- Is the piece designed for removable or extended wear?
- How often is professional maintenance expected?
- What care products are required?
- What is the expected repair path for lace, clips, tape areas, or shedding?
- What are the return, alteration, warranty terms?
- Would rotating two pieces reduce wear on one?

Payment and documentation support
Coverage, reimbursement, vary by plan, diagnosis, documentation, policy terms. Moxi Loxi can help you understand the information we are able to provide, but an insurance company or plan administrator makes the final coverage decision.
Review the Payment & Coverage Options page and our Full Cranial Prosthesis information before your appointment. Contact your insurer directly to confirm current benefits, required wording, network rules, deductibles, reimbursement procedures, deadlines.
